Failure to manage your money in these extreme cases results in chapter 13 (some debts are eliminated and a payback plan set up) or chapter 7 (all debts eliminated except for a few essentials).

For borrowers whose adjustable rate or interest only mortgages are coming due, and won’t be able to refinance at the original low teaser rate, foreclosures could be a real possibility leading to bankruptcy.
Despite the stigma, foreclosures, which stay on your credit report for 7-10 years, do NOT destroy your chances for getting a future mortgage or any loan for that matter. You just have to have a plan to get your credit on track.

With a bit of discipline you can get your credit score back up to at least 600 in about 18 months. You will however, need to find creditors who are willing to give you a second chance – and they’re out there – you just need to do some leg work to find them.

Here are a few basic steps you can take to re-establish yourself in the eyes of most lenders.

1. Make small purchases at stores that will give you a small line of credit at a reasonable rate – A good place to start would be a furniture, appliance or electronics type store. 3-4 entries like these within 6 months will start to re-establish yourself as creditworthy.

2. Make a down payment of half- try to finance only half of what ever you purchase. You want to do this to shorten the length of the loan – your goal should be to pay off the loan in 6 months.

3.Open up secured credit card – these are typically very low limit cards – $250-$500 and require deposit. Charge only very small amounts – amounts you know you can pay off at the end of the month – and make sure you PAY IT OFF. Many of these cards will raise their limits once you prove responsible re-payment.

4.Pay On time and in Full – No matter if the small amount of credit originates from a store or a new credit card pay off your bill each month or earlier.

5.Make sure good credit habits are reported – If you take out the secured credit card make sure they report history to the major credit bureaus. It doesn’t do you any good to establish good credit habits if your improve credit behavior is not reported.

If you follow these relatively simple guidelines you will on track for a 680 score in short time – 12-18 months.

By: Leslie Collins

About the Author:
There IS life after foreclosure – learn how you can establish credit regardless of your foreclosure status : Getting Credit After Foreclosure

Dominic

A Quick Guide to Credit Score Analysis

Guest Credit Score Articles

Credit Score

There seems to be a lot of confusion about credit scores. There are three main bureaus that calculate your credit score. They do not reveal the exact formulas that they use to come up with a score. What you do need to know is the range of the scores and how good your credit is considered in those ranges. Here I will show you how to do a credit score analysis on your own.

The Top Scores

• An 850 is the highest credit score you can have. Very few people get to this top number. The generally accepted range for excellent credit is between 750 and 850. If your score is within these numbers you should have absolutely no problems getting a loan and a great interest rate. From 700 to 750 is still considered very good credit. Loans should still be very easy to come by at very competitive interest rates.

The Middle Scores

• Between 600 and 700 is mediocre. The closer you get to 600 the more difficult it will be. You will be paying considerably more in interest and you may be turned down at times. You may also need a cosigner in some cases. If you’ve done a credit score analysis and found yourself in this range look at it this way, you’re not too far from where you need to be.

The Bottom Scores

• Anything under 600 and all the way down 300 is considered bad. The 500s seemed to be where many people struggle. At this range you are not completely out but it will take some time to turn things around. If you get approved for a loan it will likely be at very high interest rates. I would consider working towards raising my credit score first. Anything below 500 is terrible. I’ve rarely seen scores in the 300 and 400 range. This is usually a sign of multiple repossessions, foreclosures, accounts in collections, and other various negative items.

Keep in mind that no matter how bad your credit is you can work towards improving it. This is not an overnight process and depending on how low your score is it could take months or even years. If you have done a credit score analysis and found that you are not where you need to be, do something about it. There’s nothing worse than being in the exact same position that you are now years down the road.

By: Cris Rendall

About the Author:
If you need help improving your scores please check out my site on credit repair. Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax are the three main credit bureaus in the United States that provide credit scores. Be aware that income is not analyzed when calculating credit scores. Instead, the FICO (Fair Isaac Co.) is used as a standard credit score scale. An individual’s credit risk is calculated to a score between 300 and 850, with the average American having a credit score of about 723.

Financial institutions such as banks and credit card companies use credit scores to estimate the potential risks posed by giving loans to consumers and to reduce losses due to bad debt. Also, credit scores will determine whether the loan applications are approved, and if they are, at what interest rates they will be offered.

5 factors that determine credit scores:
Timely payment on loans (35%) Total outstanding balance on current debts (30%) Length of credit history (15%) Types of credit accounts owned (10%) New credit applications and the types of accounts recently opened (10%)

Understanding a credit report:

700 – 850: Excellent Credit

People under this category are qualified for the lowest interest rates and fair repayment terms.

680 – 699: Good Credit

They will usually be offered favorable terms for loans.

620 – 679: Reasonable Credit

Loans are still offered, but not at good interest rates.

550 – 680: Poor Credit

People with these scores find it difficult to have their loans approved. Even if they are offered, they will be charged high interest rates.

Below 550: Very Bad Credit

People who have very bad credit must consider “credit repair” before applying for loans. Otherwise, it is almost impossible to obtain loans.

Lastly, it is also crucial to know what a credit report is made up of:
Identifying information – identifies who you are Credit history – your trade lines Public records – existing legal proceedings Inquiries – new credit applications

Better financial decisions can be made by knowing your credit score and how to interpret your credit report.

By: Scott Freedom

About the Author:
For more information credit score chart and credit score improvement, visit CreditScoreEssentials.com.

Edwina

Has any one used Greg Tilley or vitesse financial for credit repair?

Credit Repair

Credit Score

Good Company

Vitesse

real estate guru asked: I was just wondering if this was a good company to use to for credit repair and if you have used it what did you think of your expericence and how well did it help you credit score?Derrick

real estate guru asked:

I was just wondering if this was a good company to use to for credit repair and if you have used it what did you think of your expericence and how well did it help you credit score?

Derrick

do those companies that repair your credit really work? Usually they require that you pay a hefty sum of money before they begin eliminating the problem. They may promise to raise your score in as little as 30 days and have you qualified for the loan of your dreams. But, can anyone really wipe out a bad credit score?

Well, you cannot pay someone to magically eliminate your credit score for you. Many people have found out the hard way that these companies are just a scam. These companies will request money even before they have looked at your credit report. These types of companies may try to persuade you to create a new credit identity. This is actually illegal and while your bad credit will be erased, you will more than likely find yourself spending time in prison or paying back a hefty fine.

The bottom line is that no one can wave a wand and erase your bad credit score. If you want that number erased, then you are going to have to do some work yourself to improve your credit score. Some things that you can do to improve your score are as followed. It may be hard work, but it is something you should certainly try to do to better your credit.

Look for inaccuracies in your credit report. It doesn’t take a whole lot to send your credit score plummeting. If you find a problem in your credit report, immediately report it to the consumer reporting company. Make sure that you are not sending original documents, only copies. This is because any document you send them will not be returned. Be sure that each item in question is clearly identified so there will not be any confusion. Once your information is processed and the correct businesses are contacted, your credit score will then be investigated. If they do identify that there is a problem with the items in question, they will fix them or sometimes erase them from your report, but only if there is a problem. It is always recommended that you keep a copy of all the disputes that you may file.

Debt consolidation can greatly improve your credit score. If your credit score is lowering because you are unable to pay off debt and you are considering filing for bankruptcy, don’t do it. Working with your credit company and consolidating your debt can have a major impact on your credit score. As a matter of fact, many companies see this as being more responsible than filing for bankruptcy. Debt consolidation basically lumps all of your unpaid bills into one monthly payment. This will make sure that everyone is getting money every time this payment is made.

Any company offering to erase your bad credit score is telling you a lie. They are either going to scam you or supply you with information that is freely available from consulting a credit counsellor. So, protect yourself and do you research before signing on with anything that seems shady.

By: James Copper

About the Author:

Dalton

What’s the best and fastest way to repair credit?

Credit Repair

Bad Luck

Credit Score

Love Tips

DTSheep asked: i’ve had a shi*t run of bad luck to say the least. i don’t exactly no my credit score, but would love to know tips on how to repair besides just keeping up with current bills and such.
